I waited for a few weeks to see how things worked out with Manny before writing this review. I needn't have waited. He's a fantastic tutor! Many tutors, especially popular tutors, are good at what they do, but not many actually care about how the student is doing. On many levels, I have observed Manny and have ticked every box that's important to us: subject expertise, professionalism, attention to detail, flexibility and willingness to listen. Manny has indeed perfected the art of tutoring, because he goes above and beyond what is expected. My daughter loves her lessons with him and calls him a "Math Genius." She wishes she could learn with him everyday. According to her, if she'd been learning with him for longer, she'd be several years ahead in Math by now. She's 11! She loves Math and wants to delve deeper, especially into areas that don't come easily to her. First of all he's genius when it comes to the material, but his unique ability to convey abstract concepts to someone who perceives herself as quantitatively challenged is truly a gift to anyone who has him as a tutor. He has some great tricks that are very intuitive, so knowledge will come naturally to you on test day; many tutors will just have you memorize dozens of formulas that are easy to confuse or forgot, but fortunately Manny does not believe in that methodology. The first thing that struck me about Manny is how convenient it is to arrange a session with him. We were able to arrange an online session right away. I really like his "whiteboard" approach. It allows him to video-record and send a copy of the entire session to his students immediately after it concludes, so they have a permanent record of what transpired. This makes it easy for the students (and their parents) to revisit the content, at their convenience. I also found him very knowledgeable and personable. He has the ability to break down each topic into its sub-components so that it is easy to understand. I am currently a student working towards my Doctorate degree and there are a lot of research classes required for the program. Most of the research classes require use of the SPSS software, which I am very unfamiliar with. His use of web ex is an innovative approach in respect to tutoring. It promotes the ease of scheduling and accessibility as it can basically be done anywhere with a paper, pen and a computer/ipad/iphone with access to internet services. The beauty of this is that the student receives a link to the recording that can be saved and viewed as needed. It also provides a sense of accountability. The parent can review the recording if they so choose to and are able to observe the interaction and level of involvement.
